I'm Sure Disney Ruined It in the Film Version

In December, Ezra wrapped two books for my birthday -- used, off his own bookshelf. "We can read them together." I got the hint.

We finished Walt Morey's Gentle Ben tonight. It was a fantastic book, probably years ahead of his reading level, and worth every minute -- even after hours of trying to pull off a husky, Alaskan fisherman drawl. He even read half a page himself one night -- impressive!

    Demolition Begins

Ezra was crushed when he realized he would lose his puppy mural. For like a minute. Then he wanted to swing the hammer.

    Hoodwinked: See It

You have to see Hoodwinked! There are many brilliant and funny elements. Some friends have complained about the animation quality, but I found it refreshing.

We've seen a lot of hype [0 1 2 3 4 5], because everybody here is excited about "local kids" doing things at the national level, and I don't mind it. I love supporting new filmmakers and other artists for all the reasons I also like to watch childrens' recitals and sporting events: you gotta start somewhere. Plus, it's another opportunity to expose Ezra to people who are using their talents and taking chances in the marketplace, so he knows he can follow in their footsteps and develop his own creative output, even if it isn't perfect.

Give the movie a chance. They did it! And they've tasted success! It deserves to be part of your comedic lexicon.

And You Guys Think I'm Not Athletic

"After the opening period, Central outscored the Pirates 2-0 during the second period to put the game effectively out of reach.

"First, Tim Nardoni slapped home a pass from Matt Mueller..." (read more)

Sandra read this entry and said, "There's another Tim Nardoni?!?!" That hurts.

"This is the best day ever ... I'm gonna build a cabin!"

Three layers of old clothing ... $0
    Old nails ... $0
    Old hammers ... $0
Busted pallets collected from a nearby abandoned plant ... $0

    I love this job.
